Estelar was standing beside a lonesome oak tree by himself. Heart aching for company, Estelar had looked for fellow elves, but no one was to be found. He was jerked out of his memories because of a cawing sparrow. Sighing, the elf pulled a lion pelt over his shoulders. It matched his bright colored hair, and his blue and gold eyes. Those eyes could gaze deep into an elf, and find what was troubling them. Estelar suddenly closed his eyes, the setting sun burning into his eyelids. Finding the sensation enjoyable, he continued to stand in that position. The elf tried to let all his misgivings escape his mind. Peace and joy were the only things Estelar wanted to think about. Slowly opening his eyes, his body turned opposite to the sun before his eyes fully opened. Another sigh passed through his lips, but this one was full of content. Feather

Anise watched Estelar from her perch in the thick foliage of the Menoa tree. She had befriended the lonely tree by singing to it, and it had welcomed her into its branches. Estelar was one of three children in Ellesmera- himself, herself, and Ronan and Katrina's child. The human baby grew slower than elf children, but lived so much shorter. It puzzled Anise. But no matter, the couple and their daughter would be leaving in a matter of days. Anise whispered good-bye to the Menoa tree and slid from its safety. She shyly approached the lonely oak that the cat-like Estelar was resting on. Silently, she leaned her back on the other side. It was enough of a feeling of companionship for the shy, young elf. Estelar's eyes widened as he heard the soft crunch of grass underneath someone's foot. He knew he was obnoxious sometimes, so it might be better if he pretended he hadn't noticed. The elf sucked in a gulp of air, and slowly began to whistle. Head shriveling to the tree's trunk, he calmly turned towards it. The fellow elf was behind the tree trunk. He continued his whistling, feeling a slight breeze sweep his bangs to the left side of his forehead. The tree seemed to follow his actions, his branches bending in the wind. Estelar stopped whistling, and the tree relaxed. Taking a step towards it, he touched its trunk with the palm of his hand. "Hello?" he looked around the trunk, hoping to see another elf. "I know you are here, fellow elf." He was taking a huge risk if this elf was of royalty. Feather

"I know you are here, fellow elf," Estelar said as he peered around the trunk. Anise smiled, her porcelain cheeks tinged with blush. "Hi, Estelar. It is I, Anise. Why did you not know who I was?"Anise was truly puzzled by why Estelar hadn't recognized her. She had already begun her magic training under an elven duke, and she had known it was Estelar by reaching out her mind to his, feeling his consciousness. She had hoped he would recognize hers, but obviously her hopes were denied. The fragile looking elf girl looked at her toes, resisting the urge to flee into the woods and be among the animals. Oh, I wish Eragon and Brightscales had left at least a few dragon eggs, she thought hopelessly. OOC- That gave me a thought! In tutorials, I'm going to find/post a complete dictionary of the ancient language. Wish me luck! Puddlesdog

Estelar took a step back when he felt something prod into his mind. His mentor had taught him how to push back, so he pushed back against the force, and felt the elves conscious in return. "Anise." he responded, just as the female started speaking. Peering through his closed eyes, Estelar realized he was right, it was the female elf. A child elf, like him. "May you please stop poking around my mind, Anise." a smirk crossed his cat-like face, as a response to her question. His smirk slowly faded as Anise just stared at her feet. Meanwhile, the poor tree was basically shivering in the brisk breeze. Cautiously, Estelar rested his hand onto the oak tree. When this happened, a calm came over him. "What are you doing here, enjoying nature like myself?" he took his hand off the tree as he inquired. "Ellesmera is truly beautiful.." Estelar commented, staring at Anise. He was trying to figure out what she was thinking. Females were more confusing the males, because males usually showed their feelings on their face. But females always remained stone-faced. Feather

Oh, how she would love to go to the palace and see Fírnen, the dragon who was bonded to the queen. But no. She had to talk. Anise dreaded talking. How was one to know what to say, and when to say it? If Anise were lucky enough to be bonded to a dragon, she hoped that dragon had no issue speaking. Luckily, Estelar gave her an excellent excuse to pounce on. "Yes! I was out here... talking to the Menoa tree. She really is nice, you know."Anise berated herself. Now he will think of you as stuck up. The Menoa tree only likes you because you can sing! Great, you've lost the friendship of the only other child in Du Weldenvarden. Anise subconsciously retreated a step away from the oak, a step closer to the forest. OOC- I am the opposite of shy, so how am I doing as a shy person? Tags- Puddlesdog

Estelar sighed in relief when he got a response from the female elf. It was becoming awkward with the pauses between their conversation. Swallowing down his nervousness, Estelar stepped forward towards Anise, because they were far apart from each other. He felt like he was shouting, and that would only encourage people to think he was obnoxious. Smiling, he stared talking in response to Anise. "Well that's wonderful! Trees need someone to like, or else they would be lonely." his grin widened. His eyes were still locked on the elf when she stepped back. "Do you have somewhere to go Anise?" Now he was radiating kindness, and she was walking away. What had he done? Anise was probably thinking he was obnoxious and annoying like everyone else did. This was a shame because he thought they were becoming friends. Estelar groaned inwardly, managing a smile on his face, a smile of hope. The worst thing about the smile was it didn't curve up towards his eyes like a real smile. This was a fatal attempt at a real smile.. "Please don't leave, I don't mean to be obnoxious, or loud." he chewed his lip, a habit when he was nervous. "See, I can whisper." he whispered. OCC: you're doing great Feather

Anise giggled at Estelar's 'whisper'. For a boisterous elf like he, a whisper was more a soft voice that one would use in a library. "Okay," Anise whispered back. "And I don't think you're annoying. Or loud. Okay, maybe a little loud, but only because you have good ideas that should be heard. And this tree is different- haven't you heard the legend? My mentor told me the first time I asked about it."OOC- Puddlesdog, get ready fooooor... the legend of the Menoa tree!

Estelar laughed loudly when Anise giggled. It was impossible for him to giggle, when he tried he just gurgled. He cocked his head at the female elf when she began talking. Why would she think he wasn't obnoxious, but step away? Maybe something had scared her. He nodded firmly to himself, and to recover for his action he quickly spoke. "Yes I agree, I am not annoying. But many others do, you see, A lot of elves call me 'obnoxious' behind my back." Sorrow entered his voice as he sighed sadly. Estelar looked at Anise with a confused glance. She had ignored his question and asked her own..Anise was acting more like him! Estelar liked that in a friend! Perking up, the elf nodded at Anise. "Of course I would like to hear that story." He agreed. Even if I have heard it three times.. This thought didn't bother Estelar, as he settled down for a story. Feather , I am ready

ANISE
Anise smiled at Estelar's consent. Perhaps the only way she felt comfortable talking was when she told a story. She climbed the oak, sitting on its lowest branch, her feet just brushing Estelar's head.
"Long ago, there was an elven lady named Linnëa. Linnëa was lovely and kind, but her mate had broken her heart. Later in her life, when Linnëa was middle aged for an elf, a charming young elf man began to befriend her. Linnëa fell in love with the young elf, but it took him getting married to an elf woman his age for poor Linnëa to realize that.
So Linnëa, wrought with grief and loneliness, went to her gardens, of which she were very fond. She found one of her trees and leaned against it and began to sing, singing of all her woes and pain. She stayed there for many months, singing. Finally, she sang herself into the tree. To this day, her spirit lives on, guarding the tree and Ellesmera."
Anise finished the tale, her throat dry. She cocked her head, her golden eyes looking expectantly at Estelar.

Estelar could only blink in amazement as Anise climbed the oak tree. He arched his eyebrows when her feet almost touched his head. "Beware of Anise's feet.." he mumbled to himself, a husky laugh escaping him. The elf cleared his throat hurriedly, and looked directly upward at Anise. That poor woman... Her heart broken twice, must have been harsh. I won't do that to my mate, if I ever have one... Estelar's thoughts roamed elsewhere in his mind as the female elf finished her story. Estelar nodded politely at her. "That is a sorrowful, but meaningful tale. May Linnëa live forever in peace." He bowed his head silently. After ten seconds of bending over, Estelar stood up and looked into Anise's searching gaze. "You are a wonderful story-teller." Was all the boy could manage. Estelar found himself suddenly beckoning at Aniseto come down. A sensation had come over his body. He was lonely all the time. This was the first company he had enjoyed in a while (besides wildlife). He wanted her to come down, so that he didn't have to stretch his neck to looks to her, but that probably wasn't the only reason. Feather

ANISE
Anise just couldn't make herself smile. After repeating the somber tale of Linnëa, she didn't feel like being happy. But the look in Estelar's eyes suggested happiness, and she thought she understood why. They were the only children in Ellesmera. When she was off in the wood with the animals and being shy, poor outgoing Estelar was exploding back in the city with no one to talk to. Then again, Anise wondered what it would be like to be a human child in this situation. Elven adults generally listen to what their children have to say, given that the child provides a logical argument. But human children don't get that chance! Silly human parents just say, "I'm older, so that's that." Anise didn't think it fair. She leaped gracefully from the tree. Her arms outstretched as she jumped, positioned like wings. For a moment, Anise had a fleeting glimpse of what it must be like to be a dragon- the endless sky, the rolling hills passing beneath you. And then she landed, and the moment was gone.
JARNÜNVOSK
Jarnunvösk watched from her perch as the two elf-children played beneath the tree. The amber dragon snorted. She turned to partner-of-her-mind-and-soul Kai, and said, I'm going to go to the children. They look like their day could be spruced up. Then she flapped her wings and took off.
She circled once or twice above the elven city, taking in the tree-homes and the once-home of Orosmis-elda and Glaedr-elda. She wondered what the golden dragon had looked like in his lifetime. His Eldunarí had been among those Saphira-elda and Eragon-elda had left behind on their flight-from-home, partly to teach Arya-queen-of-elves and her partner-of-mind-and-soul Fírnen, but Jarnunvösk knew that the other reason was so that the old gold dragon could teach Jarnunvösk and Kai and any new Riders. Jarnunvösk gave a wriggle of satisfaction as the sun caught on her citrine scales, lighting her aflame. To add to it, Jarnunvösk let out a stream of fire. She was extremely pleased- she held it for three minutes, an all-time record, even for a dragon as fine as she!
Jarnunvösk paused in her revelries. Would Saphira-elda be upset that there was another sky-hunter to revel her blue beauty? Shaking her orange head, Jarnunvösk pushed away the thought, although it still plagued her.
Jarnunvösk spotted the children, Estelar and Anise. They were playing under a lone oak tree on the crest of a hill. Jarnunvösk watched as the she-elf leaped and flew from the tree. And then she dove down. Hello, the citrine dragon said, projecting her thoughts to the children.

Estelar's mind was wandering, wondering what Anise was thinking. She wasn't smiling, so it had to be sad. Eyes were searching her gaze for the truth, but his heart and mind weren't agreeing on what it was. His heart believed Anise was thinking about dragons, and how she didn't have one. On the other hand, his mind thought she was thinking about Linnëa, and was depressed. There was no reason to be depressed though, life in Ellesmera was amazing, right? What we're all the faults of this land? Estelar's complete set of knowledge about Ellesmera trickled into his mind. Pursing his lips thoughtfully, the elf couldn't find one bad thing in the land. His thoughts trickled away, as if a vacuum were sucking them away. Shrugging the last whisps of ideas away from his mind, Estelar heard and saw something magnificent. Anise was jumping off the branch like a bird in flight! Her whole body was soaring through the air. This ended with an arubt thump[/b] as she hit the ground. Estelar didn't realize his jaw had dropped while the 'flight' was taking place. The elf shut his jaw, only to open it again as he heard a voice saying hello enter his mind. Looking up arubtly, Estelar blinked in utter amazement. "Anise, look upwards from where you stand. The dragon Jarnunvösk as decided to join us." Estelar spoke as calmly as possible. "Hello, Jarnunvösk. Why do you grace is with your being here?" The elf breathed in sharply. His least favorite elf might be coming. This dragons rider. Estelar tried to straighten his face out of the anger it held, and he hoped Jarnunvösk hadn't seen his expression. Feather

ANISE
Anise's eyes glowed as Estelar said, "Hello, Jarnunvösk. Why do you grace us with your being here?" Anise beamed, all her sadness of the lonely Linnëa evaporated. Jarnunvösk was here! Anise loved Jarnunvösk. The she-dragon was the inspiration of many of Anise's fairths. Perhaps one day she would show them to the magnificent animal, but today was not the day. Anise flew to the dragon, her smile still glowing. "Hello, Jarnunvösk!" She said energetically. She glanced back at Estelar with a laugh. She expected the elf boy to be shocked- this was Animal Anise, the Anise who came out when animals and nature were evident. Animal Anise was rarely seen by others.
Jarnunvösk chuckled at the elf-girl's enthusiasm. She cocked her head at the elf-boy's tone, however. She extended her neck until one large, orange eye was staring straight at Estelar's somewhat cocky, cat-like face. What troubles your mind, oh elf child? she asked. She scrambled for the first answer that came to mind- perhaps he is jealous that I hatched for Kai and not himself? Jarnunvösk prepared a speech- how she was sure he would be a Rider one day, how there was probably a dragon. out there for him, and the works.
She blinked one zesty eye slowly. Well?

Estelar raised one eyebrow in confusion. Who was this girl his eyes were gazing upon? The sudden change that occurred inside his friend was amazing. He was humbled by the presence of the orange dragon, but Anise was suddenly excited. Both of their reactions were different from their personality, Anise was supposed to be calm, and Estelar was supposedly obnoxious. The elf's lips curved upward at the irony of his discovery, in a smile. His cat-like teeth gleamed in the mid-day sun, and so did Jarnunvösk's scales. The orange scales were almost blinding in the firece sun rays. Stepping towards the dragon with a smile still on his face and his eyes downcast, Estelar stopped arubtly when he heard Jarnunvösk's voice inside his head. Estelar chewed on his lip again, a new problem was facing him. The boy knew he could not lie to a dragon, it was impossible. "Well Jarnunvösk, your rider is not my favorite person. He is to.. unhappy. Lonely, if you will." He responded, as calmly as he could in front of a fire breathing dragon. Estelar tried to smile, but it faltered. 'Anise help! I might have insulted Jarnunvösk's rider, Kai..' His mind reached out to hers, and Estelar thought what he wanted to say to the female elf. This might be bad.. Feather
